UPCOMING RELEASE: 'LIE THROUGH YOUR TEETH' by STUCK OUT

Updated: Aug 17, 2021

Influenced by the likes of The Story So Far, Boston Manor, and Trophy Eyes, Melbourne-based punk-rock quartet Stuck Out are set to release their latest EP, Lie Through Your Teeth, December 18. Featuring vocalist Josh Walker, guitarist Ian Browney, bassist Sheldon Schuyler, and drummer Lachy Lydiard, Stuck Out formed in 2015, releasing their debut, six-track EP, You Won't Come Home, three years later via Greyscale Records. Over the two years to follow, the band found themselves touring with notable acts including As It Is, With Confidence, and The Story So Far, enrapturing audiences with their blend of rock-infused pop-punk that cuts through to a deeper layer of the human condition.

Now, after much anticipation, hard work, and growth, Stuck Out are thrilled to announce their latest four-track EP, Lie Through Your Teeth, in partnership with SharpTone Records. "When we approached this EP, we wanted to create something that translated into our high-energy live performances. This has resulted in an aggressive, powerful yet polished sound that we believe is our best release to date," Walker shares on the EP ahead of its December 18 release. To tie fans over in the meantime, however, Stuck Out have dropped their first single and accompanying music video from the upcoming record – 'Mindless (feat. Mikaila Delgado of Yours Truly)'.

"This song is based around conversations I've had with people close to me regarding racism, sexism, and a range of humanitarian issues. Mindless is about calling your friends out for their shitty comments and rebuking the excuses they use to justify the vitriol that comes out of their mouths. Everyone has a choice to either speak up against injustice, or let it pass without reply." Walker continues, "The end of the song is to illustrate that nobody's perfect, myself in particular, but the important thing is that you continue to educate yourself and work to become a better ally for every person on this planet."

Stuck Out's lyrics resonate like that familiar internal monologue we all shared when we discovered one simple truth: growing up is not all it's cracked up to be. Navigating the ins and outs of complex relationships, while trying to find your place in a world that makes less sense by the day, has become the cornerstone for the band's lyrics through which they hope to help music lovers feel a little less alone. While some musicians play their cards quite close to their chest, Stuck Out have worn their heart on their sleeve since day one, and it has lead to them garnishing a keen and loyal fanbase.

Following the release of their latest single, I caught up with vocalist Josh Walker to chat further about Lie Through Your Teeth, the EP's leading single, 'Mindless', and hopes for a 2021 tour. Watch the full interview here.
