If you've found yourself craving more of that iconic early-2000s sound, Adelaide's emo alt-rockers Wolf & Chain have the cure with their ferocious new single, 'Not Giving Up'.
Produced by Josh Meyer (Those Who Dream, The Faim) and mastered by Steve Smart (Ocean Alley, Vance Joy), the quintet's latest offering draws inspiration from My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disco, and 30 Seconds to Mars with chugging bass lines, infectious melodies, and an anthemic chorus primed for singalongs.
Toying with the classic werewolf trope, the group's new track explores the dark side of a person in contrast to their better self. "It can often feel like you have two sides," they begin, "where you have moments of being really down and hopeless, but at the same time ... you have these moments of clarity that urge you to push through and survive."
Ultimately, 'Not Giving Up' serves as a reminder that light persists even in the darkest of nights – one can either succumb to the darkness, or push through to see a new day. This is further expressed through the accompanying music video, which pays homage to cult favourite Donnie Darko as a looming wolf figure leads the protagonist through a dark hallway to the bright lights of the band.
Since the release of their debut EP, 'An Honest Mistake' in 2020, and six-track storybook collection, 'Amor Mortal' in 2021, Wolf & Chain have brought their unique brand of aggressive pop-rock and chaotic anthems to the forefront of the alternative scene. This has seen them tour nationwide with the likes of Terra, Alera, and Headwreck, and support some of the biggest artists in the scene including Black Veil Brides, Creeper, Short Stack, and Between You & Me.
This latest drop comes just in time as Wolf & Chain take the stage tonight for their first show supporting Melbourne-based metal icons Tapestry in their three-stop AM//PM Emo Night tour. Catch them on April 6th in Brisbane, and April 13th in Melbourne.
