Hi! I’m Taylor and I’m currently completing my fourth and final year of a Bachelor of Commerce (Dean’s Scholar) at the University of Wollongong, with a major in Marketing and a minor in Digital and Social Media. Like many students, I began my university journey set on a particular career path, only to discover partway through that it wasn’t at all what I had anticipated. Initially set on pursuing a career in human resource management, I had sought out short-term work placement to better understand the roles and responsibilities of the department, only to be given some life-changing advice: “Don’t work in HR if you want to work with people”.
It was this advice that ultimately prompted me to pursue a career in marketing. As someone who describes herself as ambitious, creative and detail-oriented, I needed to be in an environment where I could work directly with people on a variety of projects. I wanted creative freedom and flexibility in my work, alongside opportunities to constantly learn and grow. Since changing my major, I haven’t looked back.

About Me
To kickstart my career in marketing, I took on a number of internships, positions and personal projects to refine my skill set and determine which specialisations I was most interested in pursuing. The first of these was a Marketing Assistant position with the University of Wollongong’s Peer Learning department, where I was responsible for contributing a student voice in the delivery of the unit's marketing and communications strategy. Most notably, I established and managed the PASS at UOW Facebook group, which I was able to grow to six hundred members in the twelve months from June 2019.
With a budding, secondary interest in event management, I was also offered the opportunity to work as an Event Assistant for the 2019 Australasian PASS and Peer Learning Conference in Wollongong, where my responsibilities primarily involved proposing and planning events for sixty student representatives throughout the course of the conference, as well as managing all outbound communications. Though I was again offered this position for the following year's conference in Adelaide, it was unfortunately cancelled due to the increasing COVID-19 restrictions at the time.
In June of 2020, I undertook a position with INCO Academy as their Growth Marketing Intern, where I practised social media marketing, content marketing, copywriting and data analytics over a period of five weeks. Having most enjoyed the social media aspect of my work, I later took on a second position with Wasamedia as a PR and Social Media Intern in February of 2021. Over three months, I collaborated with all aspects of the agency, from copywriting, to social media management, to influencer marketing. I was also directly involved in a number of client photoshoots and events which allowed me to gain further first-hand experience in content production and large-scale event planning.
To complement my major in Marketing and round out my degree, I elected to undertake a Digital and Social Media minor where I received practical experience in content creation and social media management. Through this, I launched my personal WordPress blog where I documented various elements of my studies and practised writing to different audiences. I also became familiar with Twitter and YouTube as I began producing original content to enhance my written work, which ultimately inspired me to launch my ongoing project, a music blog titled Listen Loud.
Listen Loud began as a way for me to demonstrate my various digital marketing skills to future employers while improving my communication skills, networking with industry professionals, and allowing me to freely explore different elements of brand management. In June of 2020, I designed and launched a website as well as Listen Loud social media accounts across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube, and began reaching out to local musicians in the punk, rock and alternative scene for content. Not only did I receive plenty of interest from local and international musicians, but I was contacted by a number of music promotion agencies to collaborate with their artists. Due to the high level of initial interest, I was also interviewed on SWR Triple 9 FM’s The Musos Show where I discussed the inception of Listen Loud and my love for live music.
Six months after its initial launch, I was invited to run a Listen Loud stall at the Shellharbour City Youth Festival's summer markets. For the event, I'd expanded my brand with a range of merchandise, the profits from which would go directly into funding my blog and future live music events I'd hoped to produce. This later led to a second opportunity with Shellharbour City Council as I was accepted in the Autumn 2021 intake of their EVOLVE program, a Creative Events Production and Management course funded by the council alongside the NSW Government. I'd received a grant of $3000 to fund a live music event planned, managed and coordinated by myself, though the event was cancelled just days prior, again due to new lockdown orders announced in late June.
While I've had a variety of experiences in different areas of marketing and event management across large organisations, small businesses, not-for-profits and professional agencies, I've realised I don't have an extensive portfolio of work to share with future employers. Although demand for digital marketing specialists has grown in response to the impact of COVID-19, entry-level positions are still very competitive, particularly for undergraduates. Hence, I wanted to create a platform where I can showcase my work and promote myself to local businesses with whom I hope to grow my portfolio while delivering personalised and profitable results, all in one place.
To do so, I'm currently open to accepting new clients to discuss how I can accelerate your digital marketing strategy and optimise your social media presence to achieve your business goals. As a sole trader, I can guarantee a personalised experience unmatched by large agencies, as well as my undivided attention in addressing your business needs. I'm incredibly excited to be starting this next chapter of my career, and I can't wait to help take your marketing to the next level.
