Despite initially forming as a pop-punk band in 2012, this alt-rock quintet from Blacktown, New South Wales has slowly but surely reinvented themselves in the lead up to their much-anticipated debut album, Wonderland (2020). Featuring frontman Zachariah Martino, guitarists Jonno Virgona and Kyle Gardiner, bassist Daniel Morillas, and drummer Luke Agius, Vacant Shade has borrowed inspiration from the likes of Violent Soho, Blink-182, Green Day, and Nirvana, while experimenting with elements of punk, rock, metal, and even (occasionally) country.

With Wonderland dropping on July 31st, I recently caught up with the band to discuss the new album, their progressive change in musical direction, and just how Vacant Shade got their name. Watch the full interview here.

Find Vacant Shade on Facebook, Instagram and Spotify, and stream Wonderland here.
