Credited as the pioneers of Gothenburg melodic death metal after the release of their fourth studio album, Slaughter of the Soul (1995), this Swedish five-piece has had an extremely successful career spanning three incredible decades. Consisting of frontman Tomas Lindberg, drummer Adrian Erlandsson, bassist Jonas Björler, and guitarists Martin Larsson and Jonas Stålhammar, At the Gates is sure to satisfy any metalhead with their impressive and varied discography.
Two years after the band's initial formation in 1990, At the Gates released their first full-length album, The Red in the Sky is Ours, following the success of their debut EP, Gardens of Grief, the year prior. Their breakthrough third album, Terminal Spirit Disease (1994), was followed shortly by what has come to be known as the band's strongest death metal effort to date: their internationally-praised 1995 album, Slaughter of the Soul. Unfortunately for fans, the succeeding year marked the beginning of an eleven-year hiatus for the band, before a surprise reunion in 2007 dubbed the 'Suicidal Final Tour'.
Since then, the band has formally reunited, producing two new albums, At War With Reality (2014) and To Drink From the Night Itself (2018), and performing over three hundred live shows across five continents. With a seventh studio album in the making, At the Gates has undoubtedly made death metal history, and we cannot wait to see what they have in store for us next.
